No cheese, Gromit?

I just went into a German cheese shop. I was looking for English cheese. German supermarkets don't stock it. They seem to go in for processed cheese and brie. I asked the cheesemonger and he told me that they had 200 different sorts of cheese but no English cheese. His 200-strong assortment is mostly made up of French cheese. He told me that it is important to specialise. I was rather shocked. He offered an explanation: they used to sell cheddar but there wasn’t enough demand. I mentioned Wensleydale. All he had to offer was a blank face.

I suppose that in Brussels, they'll have even more French and less English cheese. However, if I'll ever catch sight of any cheese shop here, I'll try to get you some of those strange-named before returning to Fulda.

I just find it completely ridiculous that all cheese in German supermarkets is either processed or French. (Not that I've got anything against French cheese but there's a time and a place for brie and usually it's not the right time or the right place.) No cheddar, wensleydale or red leicester in sight. It is very disappointing. So, Andrea, I would be very grateful if you could have a wee look in the cheese shops of Brussels and see if they stock any 'normal' cheese :-) And if they do, I suggest you have a try. Mmm mmm. And if there's any left after that, bring some to Fulda :-)

Cheese, like icecream is overrated.

Guess who I had a meeting with today??? Prof Schrader. He is have a jolly good time on the Sunshine Coast.

Having a little trouble adjusting to the bird that wakes him up in the morning that sounds like his alarm closk, but other then that, a wonderful time.
